2022-2023 Enrollment

The Cottonwood School is a free public charter school offering a home study program for TK-12th grade students and a site-based high school program for 9th-12th grade students. We serve El Dorado, Amador, Alpine, Placer, and Sacramento counties.

Homestudy Pathway

UPK*-12 Homeschool

When you enroll in our Homestudy Pathway, you will be matched with a credentialed teacher who will be there to support and guide you in your homeschooling journey. As a Homestudy parent, you are responsible for daily instruction and will facilitate and enable your student’s effective and successful study. You can use your instructional budget to easily enroll your child(ren) in programs and activities including events and field trips, and purchase curriculum and resources. You will make your own schedule. Your Homestudy child will have the opportunity to attend virtual classes taught by our credentialed teachers in our R.I.S.E (7th-12th grades) and Boost (K-6th grades) classes. Our Homestudy Pathway allows you to cater your child’s education to their specific needs.

*UPK – Universal Pre-K (previously TK) is offered to students who will turn 5 between September 2, 2022 – February 2, 2023

High School Site-Based Pathway

9 – 12 High School

When enrolling in our High School Site-Based Pathway, students choose which concentration they want to attend: “Design Thinking Concentration” or “Leadership & Public Service Concentration.” The Site-Based Pathway incorporates in-person instruction within the chosen concentration and online courses. This pathway has graduation requirements that align with the California State University (CSU) A-G expectations, ensuring that students are college and career ready by graduation. Instructional funds are embedded with the pathway. On-site instruction is 8:30am to 1:00pm Monday through Thursday in El Dorado Hills. Our High School Learning Center is open from 1:00pm – 3:00pm Monday – Thursday, providing students a place and time to practice, enrich, reteach, and enhance their learning with the support of the site-based staff.

High school students are welcome to apply for both the Homestudy and High School Site-Based Pathways, as the Site-Based Pathway has more limited availability.

Vaccinations are NOT a requirement of enrollment in a non-classroom-based charter school (our homestudy pathway), but they are required for students attending our high school site-based pathway.

All students, regardless of whether they are applying for the homestudy pathway or the high school site-based pathway, must provide a copy of immunization records or fill out this immunization document. (If your child is not vaccinated, please fill out the top section with name, address, etc. and return the document.)

Oral Health Exam

California law (Education Code Section 49452.8) states your child must have a dental check-up for their first year in public school. If your child had a dental check-up in the 12 months before they started school, ask your dentist to fill out Section 2. If you are unable to get a dental check-up for your child, fill out Section 3.

CHDP Health Exam

Parents/guardians must submit a completed health assessment (or waiver) 18 months before or up to 90 days after enrolling their child/ren in first grade. Parents are encouraged, however, to report this information at or before kindergarten entry since the Report of Health Examination and Report of Immunizations are best completed at the same time.

TESTIMONIALS

What Our Students Say

We had the same teacher for 6 years and she was such a gift to us. Her love, enthusiasm, caring, encouragement, empathy, knowledge,… The list could go on and on!

– Baxter Family

We had no idea what we were doing three years ago. Now my first grader doesn’t even know that she is actually learning most of the time. We have so much fun doing “work.”
